튤립 정원
I was a city boy in Korea as raised in 대구 and lived a few years in 서울
before settled in country side of America.
When my father saw vast land here in US, he became gardener instantly,
almost like small farmer.
As his passion grew with gardening, the land to cultivating area were
expanding every year. I helped his garden along the way time to time
until I was turned 30 years old. I was too busy with my own life.
I learned how to grow vegetable garden as I was helping my father;
such as 배추, 무우, 고구마, 상추, 고추, 시금치, 오이, 호박, 참외, 옥수수, 도마토, 부추….
He does lot more like 도라지, 더덕, 미나리, 포도나무, 밤나무, 복숭아나무, 배나무..
갈든이라기 보다 작은농장을 연상컈 한다.
This is a view of my father's garden.
However my interest in gardening was into flowers. Initially I tried to make rose garden
I have seen Botanica Garden in down the Long Island that
Instantly attracted to layout of arching shape where people could walk underneath.
Each side of roses climbed up in the middle section that dangling with mix color of roses.
It provided such beauty that very mild and sweet scent of aroma along with splendid appearance
that radiate to behold the eyes of visitors.
After a few years, my dream to make rose garden didn’t work so I was trying different flowers.
Finally I have seen some result with tulip that spread news of early spring from harsh and cold winter. I was very happy in year of 2012 with tulip garden.
But after two months, the chipmunk, similar to Korean squirrel but half the size,
destroyed my tulip as it dug out bulbs for foods.
I was totally devastated by such a little creature can ruined my dream.
Worst of all I couldn’t find way to catch that a little monster.
Otherwise the tulip is perennial so it bloom every year.
Also deer comes by now and then eat the flowers too.
After the incident, I have been trying to plant other flowers that can avoid from the animals
such as chipmunk, deer, rabbit, wood chuck ….
It is never easy task to grow any decent flowers that those animals don’t like
unless put the heavy fence around the property which might cost fortune.
So my passion for growing flowers evaporated somewhat
but some passion still lingering in my mind.
The most damaging to the tulip, CHIPMUNK can climb trees well
but constructs underground nests with extensive tunnel systems,
often with several entrances.
Woodchuck or groundhogs are 3 kg to 14 kg, can grow up to 80 cm,
well adapted for digging, with short, powerful limbs and curved, thick claws.
Worst enemy to the gardener.
