아버지 정원 - 지금

 

그동안 10번이상 서리가 왔으나 아버지가 밤에 덮는

정성으로 아직도 잘자라고 있다. 상추와 시금치는 일년에

두번 심으신다.

지금도 있는 파

밤나무도 12그루즘 되며 크기도 2-6미터 이다.

아버지의 아이디어인 빗물을 받아서 세 드라므통에 물을 저장해서 요긴하게 쓰신다.

옥수수는 적당하게 나오고 찰옥수수라 더 맛이 있다.

부모님은 냉장고가 세대 있어 겨울동안 저장해서

대부분 드실수있다.

호박도 4-5개즘 데서 건강식품으로 호박죽을 만든다.

크기는 사람 머리 1-2배되고 푸짐하다.

들깨

한국배나무가 두그루있다. 배는 한국배가 최고

미국배는 생긴것도 적고 길죽하고 맛도 죽처럼 물컹하다.

오이는 짧은 미국오이를 재배하며 껍질이 브드러워 깍지않고

그냥 고추장에 찍어 먹던가 오이채, 샐러드, 절여서 오래저장등

다양하게 즐기므로 여름에 밭에서 나오는것중 최고다.

그리고 도마토, 미나리, 부추, 마늘, 쑥..

하도 많아서 몇가지 빠진것 같다.

거의 필요한것은 다 있다고 본다.

60세에 정년퇴직 하신 아버지, 20년세월을 보내시면서 

보통 한국인의 체격이나 어디서 힘이 솟아 나는지 타오로는 불길이

좀체 수그러들줄 모르신다. 

자연과의 (가뭄, 홍수, 폭풍, 춥고 덥고한 온도와 야생동물들) 

싸움에 지치지도 않으신가 보다.

무엇이 그토록 하시게 만들었는지, 열정인지, 집착인지 모르나

항상 주말이 없으셨고 바쁘시면 밤 낮이 없었으니..

갈든이라기 보다 작은농장을 연상컈 하니

대단 하시다고 본다.

아래글은 내 작은애가 할아버지에 대해서 10학년때..

My Grandpa

Watching from afar, you see a man walking in a brisk manner along a slight incline at a curb. 

The only signs of his age are a metal cane in his right hand and the slight hunch in his back. 

He walks into a house but comes out in work clothes, ready to do what he has been for years. 

The black work boots he wears have faded to a mottled brown, coated with dirt and scrapes. 

The leather has aged much, leaving many wrinkles, much like the ones that line his face. 

Gray cotton pants, adorned with streaks of white paint, are held by a leather belt worn equally 

as his boots. 

The old man wears a thin white, button-down shirt that is marked with sweat stains 

and splotches of dirt. A straw hat, frayed at its edge, shades his small wrinkled face. 

His facial features are softened by the wrinkles that create sags in tan skin that has spent 

many days in the sun. 

His tiny eyes squint under drooping eyelids and the blazing hot sun, 

yet they exude a sense of wisdom beyond his many years. Gloves cover tough, 

callused hands that have seen lifetimes of manual labor. 

The old man walks at an easy pace, towards a small shed and enters. 

He reappears carrying numerous gardening tools with ease. 

He heads towards a large fenced in garden and the old man begins his laborious work. 

Hours later, still working, the old man wipes his gleaming forehead with a handkerchief 

already soaked in sweat. 

It’s a simple life for this old man, but it’s the only one he has ever known.
